How to renew a Florida nail specialist license

Florida nail specialist licenses renew every two years. Renewal has five parts, and the CE part takes the longest, so start there.
1. Find your renewal date
Florida puts every cosmetology and specialty license in one of two renewal groups:
- Group 1 licenses expire October 31 of odd-numbered years.
- Group 2 licenses expire October 31 of even-numbered years.
Your group depends on when your license was first issued. You do not choose it. Check the date in MyDBPR or on your wall license rather than going by a coworker’s date. See Group 1 vs Group 2 renewal deadlines.
2. Complete 10 hours of approved CE
Florida requires 10 hours of Board-approved continuing education each renewal cycle under Florida Administrative Code rule 61G5-32.001. The hours are split across eight required subjects. See the CE hours breakdown.
3. Let the provider report it
You do not report required Florida cosmetology CE yourself. The approved provider reports your completion through DBPR’s CE tracking system, which works with CE Broker. You can log in to CE Broker to confirm your completion is posted. If it is missing 30 days after you finished, contact the provider — do not wait until renewal week.
4. Pay the renewal fee
The fee is set by Board rule. Check the current amount in MyDBPR when you renew.
5. Clear any holds
Open complaints or unpaid fines can block renewal.
Do not cut it close
Provider reporting takes time to show up in MyDBPR. Finish your CE at least 30 days before your renewal date.
If your license lapses, you have up to one year to renew as delinquent: pay the delinquent fee, complete your CE, and reactivate. After one year the license is null and void and you have to re-test or re-apply. Working on a lapsed license counts as unlicensed practice, even if you are two days late.
Long-tenure exemption
Effective July 1, 2024, Florida law provides a CE exemption for licensees who have held an active license continuously for at least 10 years with no disciplinary action on record. If you think you qualify, the renewal process is different — verify it in MyDBPR.
Check your own record. Board rules and renewal details can change between cycles. Confirm your renewal date, CE status, and any exemption in MyDBPR at myfloridalicense.com before you rely on this page.
